A Password Generator Built Around an Idea Most Tools Skip Entirely

I reviewed the leading password generators and strength checkers, including Bitwarden, Proton Pass, and dedicated strength-testing sites, before building this one. Every single one solves the security half of the problem well: generate enough random entropy and a password becomes mathematically hard to guess. Almost none solve the human half: a genuinely random 20-character string is nearly impossible for a person to recall, which quietly pushes people back toward weak, memorable passwords. This tool's Story Passphrase mode is built specifically to close that gap.

Story Mode: The Part No Other Generator Does

Most passphrase generators string together unrelated random words, "River-Stone-Eagle-Flame", which is genuinely more secure than a short complex password, but still reads as a meaningless list. This tool's Story Mode takes the exact same underlying random word selection and entropy, then arranges it into a tiny, vivid mini-scene using a theme you pick, a heist, a space voyage, a cooking disaster. The words themselves remain just as randomly chosen as in any standard passphrase generator, but because they form a sentence you can visualize, the resulting password becomes dramatically easier to recall without sacrificing any randomness.

Length Beats Complexity, and the Numbers Prove It

NIST Special Publication 800-63B, the current US government password guidance, explicitly removed mandatory complexity rules from 2003-era recommendations and now emphasizes length above all else. A 20-character phrase built from common words is mathematically harder to crack than an 8-character password packed with symbols and numbers, because every additional character multiplies the total number of possible combinations rather than just adding to them. This generator defaults to longer outputs in both Random and Story modes for exactly this reason.

A Live Crack-Time Visualizer Across Different Attacker Types

Rather than showing a single vague "strong" or "weak" label, this tool estimates how long your specific password would take to crack against several realistic attacker categories, a basic online guessing attempt that is rate-limited by the target website, a fast offline GPU-based brute-force attempt, and a theoretical large-scale cracking cluster. Seeing the same password described as both "centuries" against one attacker type and "hours" against another gives a much more honest picture of real-world risk than a single strength bar.

A Self-Destructing Session Vault, Not Permanent Storage

If you generate several passwords in one session, comparing options or generating one for each of several accounts, this tool keeps a temporary vault of everything generated so far, visible only within your current browser tab. Nothing is written to any server or persistent storage, and the entire vault disappears the moment you close or refresh the tab, giving you short-term convenience without creating a permanent, unencrypted record anywhere.

QR Code Transfer Without Any Network Round-Trip

Typing a long random password into a phone is tedious and error-prone. This tool generates a QR code directly from your password using client-side JavaScript, no server ever sees it or generates it remotely, that you can scan with your phone's camera to instantly capture the exact password for pasting into a mobile app or password manager.

Breach Checking With K-Anonymity, Not a Plaintext Upload

Checking whether a password has appeared in a known data breach is genuinely useful, since a strong-looking password that has already leaked is effectively worthless. This tool uses the k-anonymity technique pioneered by Have I Been Pwned: your password is hashed locally in your browser using SHA-1, and only the first five characters of that hash, not enough information to reconstruct or identify your actual password, are sent to check against the breach database. Your real password never leaves your device in any recoverable form.

Complete Privacy by Design
